Overview

Residents of small towns often have limited options for social events and entertainment. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many people to work remotely and stay home, leading to an increased interest in small towns and rural areas.

IOCO shows you the leisure plans available in the area where you are. Through filters, you can find the personalized plan that is closest to you, being able to choose different categories like nature, food, sports, food, and music.

It will enable small local businesses to incorporate fresh material on a regular basis and attract new consumers, as well as provide a digital touch to enterprises in a simple and intuitive manner.

Design Thinking

"l’m going to the village on vacation and I have little to do"

"When I go to meet my family in the village, I am bored."

"I'm heading to the village to telework, but I don't see many of my pals there, so I'11 be available in the afternoons."

Birth of the idea

What have you learnt about the pandemic?

  • We appreciate having extra time at home.

  • We would like to spend more time with our families.

  • We are seeking for telecommuters.

Goals

  • Create a platform that helps users discover local events and activities in small towns, increasing community engagement and social connections.

  • Provide a channel for small businesses in small towns to promote their offerings to the local community, increasing their visibility and customer base.

  • Design a simple and user-friendly application that is easy to navigate and accessible to all users, regardless of technical proficiency or disability.

  • Enable future collaborative development with a programmer, allowing for continued updates and improvements to the IOCO platform over time.

Benchmark

To define key features and design elements for IOCO, a benchmark analysis was conducted on similar apps like Fever, Eventbrite, All Events in City, Meetup, and iUrban. Features were categorized into General, Location, Time, Event, Profiles, and Other.

Key findings:

  • Fever stood out for its visually appealing design, effective event filters, and engaging gamification system.

  • Eventbrite featured a useful calendar for finding events by date.

The analysis highlighted essential elements for IOCO, including an intuitive and attractive design, powerful search filters, and a strong focus on user engagement.

User persona

To define the user persona for IOCO, I considered the different profiles that could benefit from the platform. These include:

  • Teleworkers: They are interested in finding social events and activities in their local community to help break up their workday and meet new people.

  • Entrepreneurs: They are interested in promoting their business offerings and connecting with potential customers in their local area.

  • Teenagers: This group is interested in socializing with their peers and finding fun, local activities to do with friends. They are often active on social media and value experiences that are shareable on their social channels.

  • Local officials: This group includes mayors, city council members, and other officials who are responsible for promoting their town or village, cultural events and activities. They may also use the platform to connect with local businesses and encourage economic growth in their area.

Wireframes

Having thoroughly analyzed the given context, I successfully crafted the primary user journey for individuals in search of an event. Drawing insights from this comprehensive understanding, I proceeded to conceptualize and bring to life the foundational digital wireframes. These initial wireframes serve as a visual representation of the user experience, outlining the key interactions and design elements that will shape the eventual interface of the event-seeking process.

Learnings

During the design and development of IOCO, I gained valuable insights as a UX/UI designer:

  • User research is essential: It helped identify user needs, pain points, and guided key features.

  • Simplicity matters: A clean, user-friendly design improves accessibility and usability.

  • Details make a difference: Typography, colors, and other small elements greatly enhance user experience.

  • Collaboration drives success: Support and feedback from peers and my teacher motivated continuous improvement and led to project recognition.

Overall, these learnings will inform my future work as a UX/UI designer, and I will continue to prioritize user research, simplicity, collaboration, testing and iteration, and attention to detail in all of my design projects.
